Providing Incredible Care While Keeping Your Work Life Balance

There is no denying that what we do as therapists is tough. Our work is not over when our sessions end and it is very easy for us to carry our work home with us to stretch our days out to 12 or more hours. We work tirelessly to enhance our knowledge and skills outside of our session times, we are always thinking about resources we can gather for our next client, or the next skill session we can attend. We want to be the best we can to help our clients, so a job that from outside looks like a very low time commitment is, in reality, extremely time consuming.

So as we try to balance our full schedule of clients, spending time building our professional skills, gathering resources to use in session and reading every book we can that would help our clients; there are usually a few, if not several of these, we can’t really accomplish because there just isn’t enough time. This can lead to cutting out the most time consuming pieces, like reading books that are either helpful for skill and theory or for referring to clients. But these pieces are still super important, so what do we do instead? We tap our trusty network to get referrals on books or try quickly browsing Amazon to grab the general topics from these resources to try to fill in this gap. While sometimes this might work out alright, there are many times when we don’t get a comprehensive understanding of the book, which can lead to us not actually being able to put the ideas into practice or the client may not connect with it fully because the information you’re still missing. This of course could translate poorly on you as a provider or on your therapeutic process. This is why PsychEd Providers was developed, we wanted a way to bring these resources and opportunities for networking to those providers who are looking to step up their care for their clients.
PsychEd Providers was imagined and developed as a book club but it offers so much more than just a once a month meeting with shallow discussion, and the best part is, you don’t even need to have read the book to benefit. We’ll go over detailed info about the most important parts of the books we read and give you resources to dig into each topic at a deeper level, whether they be skill and theory based books or books to recommend to your clients to support them in conjunction with your therapy sessions. When we go over a book that is meant to be recommended to clients we’ll also go over what type of clients they would be best for and the types of clients these should not be recommended to and in your resources you’ll receive an ideal client profile for each book  which spells out important considerations when recommending each book such as religious or spiritual content, developmental and cognitive appropriateness and more. All of these reasons and more are why a service like PsychEd Providers is so important for a comprehensive approach to client care. We all know that to be most effective we shouldn’t be working in a vacuum, and this service is able to bring all of these important pieces to you, even in a time like this where we can’t be physically together.
